    Beijing Olympics

In 6 days’ time, Beijing will be having their opening ceremony of the Olympics 2008 in China.

Almost everybody in China is proud of hosting the Olympics and I must admit that during travel to Beijing this year, the attitude of the local Pekinese is really good and everyone that you greet are so jovial and so polite, unlike Beijing a few years ago.

I still remember that I was in Thailand in 2002 when they announced that Beijing has won the host for 2008 Olympics and you can see the elation of the people that got the news over the news channel. Since then, lots of work has commenced and I heard a commentary previously saying that the Olympics have not started but the design of the construction that China is building for the Olympics could be awarded some great awards and set some world records.

I was departing from the new Beijing Airport Terminal 3 in early July and I am amazed at the sheer size of the airport. The new airport is huge with more than 60 gates and I understand that the old Terminal 1 will be fully dedicated to flights departing for other cities that is co-hosting the Olympics.

The picture shown is what you see upon clearing the immigration and security check, impressive isn’t it?

    Learning To Relax

My brother and sister in law with their family, who are stationed in Shanghai, are back in Singapore for their summer vacation. Before coming to Singapore, my brother called and asked if it is all right for him to bring the Nitendo Wii to Singapore so that his kids can play when they are bored and of course, I said Yes.

I have always been enjoying playing console games until my endeavor into my part time business where I felt that playing games was a waste of time because it will not help me to achieve my goals sooner. Therefore, it has been more than a couple of years that I had actually sat down and enjoy playing games.

When the Nitendo Wii was fixed up on Sunday, I had my first share of playing together with my wife and I felt really relaxed. It was really a nice feeling and ever since then, I decided to set aside about half an hour each weekday to play the Nitendo Wii to relax a little.

Sometimes, you cannot help but to admit that every thing happens for a reason.

I was invited to attend a Success Permission Seminar preview by Dr. Sundardas 2 days ago and Dr. Sundardas was talking about Childhood Programming. One of the questions was “I am often described as a serious person and I have difficulty enjoying life” and my answer to that question was Yes.

The missing permission for this statement was “The Permission To Be A Child” and guess what, I seem to have my real life issues of being too tensed and too serious, having imbalance in my life of focusing too much on work and not relaxing enough that may be causing me not to achieve my goals in life sooner.

Everything in life has to be balanced!

Now that I know what I am missing and with just setting aside half an hour each weekday to play the Nitendo Wii, I know I am heading in the right direction of having a great balance in my life.

What about you? Are you working too much without play or are you playing too much without work? Either one is bad because that means you are not having a balance in your life and when that happens, the one that is overly deprived will one day sabotaged you!

Starting doing something now before it is too late.

    All the best!

    Visit To Vietnam

I made my first visit to Vietnam a couple of days ago together with my colleague and we flew straight from Singapore to Hanoi.

I have never known what Vietnam is like and always have good impression of it because I felt that it is the country that is developing very well among the rest of the South East Asia countries. As a matter of fact, my colleague and I were actually looking forward to this Vietnam trip because it will be our first time to Hanoi.

Traveling around the world has certainly give us some decent exposure to what the world is like and throughout my past 14 years of working life, I have been to Austria, China, Denmark, Germany, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, US and now Vietnam.

Of all the countries that I have visited, even how bad or poor the country is, I always find something good or even likable in the country but I think I have to go to Vietnam a few more times to discover what is it that I like about Vietnam. Food is good and cheap but I think there should be more exciting things in Vietnam.

Let’s see what is coming out and perhaps we will visit Vietnam in the near future but if you have any exciting things to share about Vietnam, please drop me a comment.

    Family Bonding

I was packing my bag a couple of weeks ago for my trip going to China for about 3 weeks and my daughter always want to help me to pack my bag whenever I am making an overseas trip.

I believe it has been the consistent help that my daughter has been giving that she even knows what are the things that I bring for my overseas trip. A couple of months back, when I just left all the clothes on the floor with my suitcase opened, she actually make the effort to pack all my clothes into my suitcase and I was elated to see that.

What surprised me more was during my packing a couple of weeks back and while we were packing halfway through, my daughter suddenly shouted:

“Papa, you forget to bring your socks!”

I had wanted to pack my socks later but to think that Meredith noticed that I forgot my socks was really amazing. I was delighted and my wife and I could not stop laughing.

Now, talking about family bonding, this could be an incident that we continuously talk about whenever I am with my daughter and my wife because it is really such a unique incident.

So, what are you doing right now that bonds your family and you closer?

    Outing With Family

During the time when I was in Singapore a couple of weeks ago, I made a point to spend some time with my family and told my wife to arrange for a time to go and watch Kung Fu Panda with my daugther.

My daughter was actually counting down to the days where we were going to watch Kung Fu Panda and she was very excited on the day itself. As what kids normally do, she was asking questions almost throughout the whole movie and it is fun to watch how inquisitive they are.

It has been more than 5 years since I had last watch a movie with my wife and I think the last movie we watched together was The Lord of The Ring : Return Of The King.

I am actually a big fan when it comes to watching movies but have stopped due to 2 reasons:

    1. My wife doesn’t like to watch movies
    2. Investing in more time to learn the skills that can propel me to my dreams faster

However, I have decided to inject a little fun into my family life and instead of watching movies alone, I will do it together with my family. What a great idea! I can do what I love and also spending time with my family.
